Professor Asghar Zaidi has been appointed by the CUHK Jockey Institute of Ageing as Adjunct Professor starting from 11 July 2016.
As Professor in International Social Policy at the University of Southampton and a member of the Centre for Research on Ageing of the University, Professor Zaidi has developed the Active Ageing Index which measures national progress in potentials and capability of older people in all European Union countries. He is also the leading researcher of HelpAge International in developing the Global AgeWatch Index, the first of its kind index to measure the well-being of older people around the world. In addition, Professor Zaidi has contributed to various ageing-related projects in the United Nations. A recent case is the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs the Expert Group Meeting on "Global ageing and the data revolution - the way forward in the post-2015 environment".
Professor Zaidi will work closely with the Institute on areas related to the AgeWatch Index for Hong Kong and Active Ageing Index for Hong Kong. The appointment will also strengthen research activities with the Worldwide Universities Network, of which the Chinese University of Hong Kong is a member of the Network.
